Nightingale Physiotherapy Practice has two clinics based in Rotherham and Wath-upon-Dearne, covering local arears (adwick, adwick upon dearne, Brampton, Rawmarsh, Wentworth, Elsecar, Bolton, Bolton upon Dearne, Darfield, Swinton, Mexborough). Both locations are easy to find, offer good parking and have flexible opening hours, including evening and weekend appointments. Home visits can also be arranged.

All of our physiotherapists are chartered and registered with the Health Professions Council, (HPC). This means that you should receive safe and effective treatment from someone who has completed a recognised training course. In addition all of our practitioners have additional qualifications in areas such as manual therapy, sports injuries, acupuncture and personal training.

Numerous conditions can be treated with physiotherapy. Some of the most common include:

• Low back and neck problems, e.g. spondylosis and whiplash type injuries.
• Sports Injuries
• Post surgery rehabilitation, e.g. spinal operations, shoulder decompression or ACL repair.
• Ligament sprains and muscular strains.
• Post fracture rehabilitation, e.g. broken wrists and ankles.
• Occupational health related disorders

John Isaacs
John qualified as a physiotherapist in 1991. He gained his initial experience working in the NHS for two years. He then spent a year in Toronto, Canada, developing his outpatient skills. On his return to England he combined NHS and private physiotherapy work before committing himself fully to Nightingale Physiotherapy in 1995. John completed an MSc. in sports injuries in 1998 and has continued to update his skills in areas such as manual therapy and acupuncture. His main areas of interest include spinal conditions, particularly whiplash, and the treatment of sports injuries.

Private Medical Insurance:
There are pre determined rates that vary from company to company. Please contact your insurance company for details. It is also possible you may be required to pay an excess, depending on the provisions of your policy. If you are claiming via Westfield then your doctor should be aware that you are attending for treatment.

The initial assessment will begin with some detailed questioning about your problem and also about anything which might affect this, for example your general health, occupation and hobbies/sports. You will then have a physical examination of all areas which might be contributing to your problem. Once a diagnosis has been reached this will be discussed with you and hopefully treatment can start immediately. What do I wear to the sessions? During physiotherapy sessions it is helpful if patients wear clothes which allow the physiotherapist to treat the problem area effectively. For example, wearing a vest would be ideal for a neck or shoulder injury, while shorts would help with a knee problem. Can a friend/relative accompany me? You are welcome to bring a friend or relative to sessions. This can be reassuring, particularly when you attend for the first time. Do I need a doctor’s referral? If you are paying for your own treatment then you do not have to visit a doctor first. If you are claiming for your treatment through an insurance company, such as BUPA or Westfield, then your doctor should be aware that you are coming for treatment and a referral may be required. It is always worthwhile checking the requirements of your policy. What treatments do you provide? We will always agree a treatment plan with you, based on your problem and the level of fitness you need to achieve. Typical treatments include: Manual therapy – Mobilising or manipulating joints which are not moving as they should. Massage – To help with soft tissue problems, such as muscular tightness. Exercises – We will always try and provide exercises to help you manage your problem initially and also to try and avoid recurrence. Electrotherapy – Machines such as ultrasound, interferential and TENS can help as part of a treatment programme. Acupuncture – This can be useful for pain relief.
